It looks like Apple is moving to control in-app payments with new restriction, forcing all payments to go through it and not third party companies. What does this mean? Well, apparently the new restriction was the reason Sony’s E-Book Reader app was removed from the app store and some are wondering now if Amazon’s Kindle app is next.
Apple is most likely tightening the leash for two main reasons: (1)In-App purchases are the future – regardless of the app or service (just ask Zynga)and Apple wants to make sure it’s there to take its cut and (2) Apple has been rumored to be adding NFC into the next iphone thus wanting itunes/apple ecosystem to be your payment system. Their massive data base of credit card numbers and users puts them in a position where they could essentially be like Paypal – i.e. they want to make sure they get their cut. Love it or hate it – if you want the hardware, you gotta play by the rules or jailbreak NEXT!!
