So i came across this article about “The Waning Originality of Hollywood” yesterday and while I had always contemplated why it was so hard to find a great film (especially an original Sci-Fi movie) it wasn’t until I got a glimpse of the above info-graph, that it all started to make sense – so yes, info-graphs work. Simply put, Hollywood has been making sequels for the last 20 years because they are too chicken-shit to take risks on new ideas – they have always been “big-business” orientated but the present state of Hollywood studios is “bank-esque”.

By far, one of the best apps in Apple’s ecosystem (iPhone & iPad) has been Flipboard – hands down. For those not really familier with Flipboard, it essentially allows you to aggregate all your favorite content (on the web) into a simple to use flipbook app. Still unsure, check out the video below:

NetFlix has taken the first steps towards becoming content independent, creating its very own original content, starting with the mob drama Lilyhammer. All eight episodes are now available for streaming on Netflix – so if you’re the type that loves to “marathon” series, now is your chance. Lilyhammer:

Frank Tagliano (Steven Van Zandt), is a former member of the New York mob. After testifying in a trial in the United States, Tagliano is relocated to Lillehammer in Norway through the FBI’s witness protection program. Frank Tagliano was intrigued by Lillehammer when he saw television images of the Winter Olympics in 1994, and therefore chooses to start his new life there. The transition from being a feared and respected gangster in New York, to become an unemployed immigrant in Norway, is not simple. Frank discovers that to get up and in the Norwegian rural society, he must resort to the old, ruthless methods.

According to TheVerge (by way of Netflix), Lilyhammer is watched by 1.2 million viewers/per week – the highest number for any TV series in Norwegian history. Let’s hope this is just the beginning – becoming content independent will allow Netflix to grow and will allow them more freedom from Hollywood’s archaic mindset.

Oh porn, we just can’t get enough of you! The kind folks over at theoatmeal.com have put together this amazing chart showing internet bandwidth usage. Not surprisingly, porn reigns supreme with Netflix coming in at 20% of the pipe during peak hours. I have to say, this isn’t so shocking but Netflix’s 20% is the reason Comcast is going to try to throttle their content –  after all, it is “Comcast’s pipes” – I see a war coming. Anyway, “Porn on Internet” – just make sure you wash your hands. NEXT!!
