After years of sitting on the sidelines, Polaroid is finally getting into the……(cough)…. photo taking/sharing game, with their release of a Hipstamatic like app. Polamatic has everything you’d expect: filters, social sharing features, borders, frames and even Instagram integration. Those are all great features but lets be honest, the app is 2 years too late and the $.99 price is not helping either.

Following in the footsteps of Path, the wildly popular photo taking/sharing app Instagram has re-designed the iOS version of its app. The changes include a massive UI facelift (much more sleek), tappable notifications, a new filter and additional features. One of the additional features is an opt-in feature for uploading your contact list, something most likely leaned from the Path App debacle. The free update will most likely make taking filtered picture and sharing them even more popular….something I’m still on the fence about.

Kevin Systrom, CEO of Instagram told a panel at LeWeb 2011, that he had members of his design staff working on an Android version of the popular photo sharing app. Beyond that, we heard no release dates or any other information regarding an Android specific app but there was talk about Instagram’s inroads into monetization. Thats right, the app you love so much will have some kind of advertising built in at a future point. Does this mean there won’t be a paid versions without advertising, no but it does seem like the days of a simplistic UI – free of Toyota Ads, are limited. Personally, I can’t wait for people to fall in love with taking “Non-Filtered” pictures again.
