Adobe has made available a beta version of its award winning photo editing software – CS6 Photoshop – it can be downloaded directly from Adobe for free, just click here. The beta version of Photoshop CS6 has been available for less than a week and today adobe announced that it has been downloaded more than half a million times:

Today, Apple updated its pro video editing software – Final Cut Pro. The update should appear when you open the App Store application, as FCX was a digital download only. While FC X has been live for seven months now, it hasn’t received the fan fair as most of Apple’s products. Its massive differential from FC 7 left pro users extremely upset and its initial release left countless pro features missing. The backlash forced Apple to quickly release an update, which calmed the storm for some time but recently, more and more pro users have left the FC platform for either Adobe or Avid. So, what do we get with this much needed update, well here is Apple’s Press release:

Rogue Amoeba, one of the best software houses for the Mac has just released Piezo, which lets you record audio from any app on you mac. Sounds simple right – that’s the point. Recording audio has always been somewhat of a tricky task, especially on a computer because you have so many apps and tasks running. Often times, while recording, you can contaminate a clean audio recording simply by opening up an app that plays a sound or if someone decides to Skype you. Recording on a computer was never easy and now it is….and it’ll only cost you $10.

Remember the infancy of global piracy – where applications like Napster reigned supreme and everyone and their grandmother were hot swapping music like it was going out of style? A lot of time has passed, a lot of prosecutions and a hell of a lot of domains seized and the only thing that’s changed is the method of piracy. Big content creators are dropping the hammer left and right – not asking why but demanding: STOP!

Enter the: Social Science Research Council and their recently released report on global piracy  ”Media Piracy Project.” This is hands down, one of the best and most fair reports concerning global piracy, from a source not connected to content creators. The Goal: Simply to examine and understand piracy in emerging markets, such as India, Russia, Mexico and many others.

Not surprisingly, pricing of media content was at the core of piracy, especially true when mixed with low income and the absolute spread of very inexpensive digital equipment. Simply, you have populations of people with the ability to play digital content but without the means to pay for it, as it’s priced beyond their means. For example: If a music album costs the equivalent of $15 in India but the average working person makes far less than the average American, the actual cost of that same album is multiple times higher.

Cracking Down: In many of the mentioned developing nations, actual enforcement for media piracy is non-existant. This can be attributed to many factors: Lack of piracy laws, lack of police enforcement, actual government involvement of piracy and lack of actual legal copies of movies, music or software because of distribution issues.

End Game: So what is the solution? Where can content creators and consumers meet? In my opinion, piracy will end when demand for media is quenched by realistic and fair policies – on both sides. The developing world has a massive thirst for all sorts of media but they can not be expected to purchase content priced outside their means.

You have to give it to Adobe, they aren’t quitters! Wallaby is the codename for Adobe’s experimental flash to html converter tool, which we know little about but promises that long desired (for some) option of switching between the two platforms quickly.

“…This allows you to reuse and extend the reach of your content to devices that do not support the Flash runtimes. Once these files are converted to HTML, you can edit them with an HTML editing tool, such asAdobe Dreamweaver®, or by hand if desired. You can view the output in one of the supported browsers or on an iOS device.”

Adobe goes on to state that not all aspects of flash convert over to html and that browser support and bugs are already being documented but if you feel like playing with this marsupial – check it out by clicking here.
